Hornets Fall To Troy In Riverwalk Showdown

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State University scored seven runs in the ninth, but a rally from a 13-3 deficit came up short in a 13-10 loss to Troy University on Tuesday at Riverwalk Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • William Sullivan hit a solo home run start the scoring in the first inning.  
  • Jack Hay provided the answer with a two-run home run to give the Hornets a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first.  
  • Jamal George hit a solo home run to lead off the fifth to push Alabama State's lead to 3-1.  
  • The Trojans plated six runs, three earned, in the sixth inning to regain the lead at 7-3. Ethan Kavanaugh and Kyle Mock had RBI singles and Caleb Bartolero got a run in on a sacrifice fly. 
  • Troy added a run in the seventh and four runs in the eighth innings to build its lead to 12-3. 
  • Kole Myers hit a two-run round-tripper to highlight the six-run eighth.  
  • Brooks Bryan had an RBI single in the ninth to extend the Trojans' lead to 13-3. 
  • Kyle Kuramoto hit a three-run home run and Ian Matos had a two-run single to highlight a seven-run ninth that made score 13-10.
ON THE MOUND 
  • Jorhan Laboy (1-3) was saddled with the loss, yielding five runs, one earned on five hits with two strikeouts.  
  • Logan Ross (2-0) recorded two strikeouts while allowing one run on three hits to pick up the win for Troy.  
INSIDE THE BOX 
  • The Hornets hit three home runs on the night to take over the SWAC lead with 33sd home runs.  
  • Randy Flores stole two bases, ranking third in the SWAC with 19 bags. 
  • George's home run was his third of the season. 
  • Hay led the Hornets with three hits and four RBI, that included his sixth home run of the year. 
  • Chandler hit his first career home run in the ninth.
