MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State University baseball pounded out 14 hits and Hornet pitchers combined for 14 straikeouts in a 13-3 win over Jacksonville State University on Tuesday at Rudy Abbott Field-Jim Case Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Caleb Johnson doubled and scored on a TJ Reeves single to put the Gamecocks up 1-0 in the first inning.
- Alabama State used a three-run second to take a 3-1 lead. Jamal George, Randy Flores and Trenton Jamison singled to load the bases. Ian Matos drew a walk to score plate Georgie while Flores and Jamison scored on RBI ground outs.
- Trenton Jamison belted a home run to centerfield to kick started a three-run fifth. King got a run home on a sacrifice fly and Lopez singled in a run to push the lead to 6-1.
- Carson Crowe's RBI single in the fifth cut the ASU lead to 6-2.
- Ian Matos hit a three-run homer in the fifth with Jamison and George on base to push the lead to 9-2.
- Javen Hernandez singled in a run to trim the Hornets' lead to 9-3 in the bottom of the fifth.
- The Hornets loaded to bases in the seventh and Flores unloaded them with a double for a 13-3 lead.
ON THE MOUND
- Alabama State pitchers combined for 14 strikeouts on the night.
- Luis Rodriguez (1-0) allowed one run on three hits with three strieouts to earn the win.
- Trey Fortner (0-3) gave up three runs on six hits in 4.0 innings to take the loss for the Gamecocks.
