@BamaStateBB Sweeps Twin Bill and Series From Jackson State

MONTGOMERY, Ala.| Alabama State University got two home runs from Ali Lapread and held off a late Jackson State rally for a 6-5 win in the nightcap of a doubleheader on Sunday at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex. The Hornets claimed a 6-1 win in game one. 

Laprread
went 4-for-7 with a two home runs, a triple and five RBI in the doubleheader.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  
  • Kyler McIntosh singled and scored on an Ali Lapread single for a 1-0 Hornets' lead in the first inning.  
  • Jackson State tied the game in the second. Cesar Saaverda singled and scored an Omar Gomez squeeze bunt.  
  • Alabama State scored four runs in the third to build a 5-1 lead in the fourth. Ian Matos hit a two-run home run followed by a Lapread RBI triple and a Cristian Lopez RBI single. 
  • Corey King doubled home Ian Matos in the fourth to make the score 6-1
  • Luis Rodriguez struck out the final two hitters to close the game in the seventh. 
ON THE MOUND  
  • Ricardo Rivera (6-0) struck out four and yielded one run on four hits to earn the win.  
  • Jesse Caver (4-4) allowed six runs, five earned on 12 hits with five strikeouts to take the loss for the Tigers.  
  • Sebastian Colon worked 2.0 scoreless innings and allowed three hits.  
INSIDE THE BOX  
  • The Hornets had 12 hits, notching double-digit hits for the 20th time this season.
  • Matos went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run.  
  • Jack Hay was 2-for-4 with a run scored and triple. 
  • Lapread went 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBI.  
  • Lopez had two singles and an RBI. 
HOW IT HAPPENED | GM 2 
  • Ty Hlll's two-run home run put Jackson State up 2-0 in the top of the first.  
  • Daniel Bannon singled in a run to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead in the second inning.  
  • The Hornets scored two runs in the bottom of the third. Matos scored on a King sacrifice fly and Jack Hay scored on a Lopez single to right field.  
  • Lapread hit a solo home run to tie the game 3-3 in the bottom of the third.  
  • The Tigers put the go ahead run at third base, but Sebastian Colon got a ground out to end the threat in the top of the sixth.  
  • Lapread hit his second home run of the game, belting a two-run homer to put Alabama State ahead 5-3 in the seventh.  
  • Lopez walked and scored on an Ian Matos sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 6-3 in the eighth. 
  • Jackson State scored two runs in the ninth to trim the lead to 6-5 and had the tying run at third base. Randy Flores made a leaping catch on a Myles White line drive for the final out.  
ON THE MOUND  | GM 2
  • Sebastian Colon (2-2) picked up the win, allowing no runs with a strikeout.  
  • Brandon Haston (1-1) allowed two runs on three this to suffer the loss for Jackson State.  
  • Adiel Meledez worked 1.2 scoreless innings with two strikeouts in his first appearance of the season  
  • Luis Rodriguez recorded the final out to pick up his fourth save.

  • Lapread went 2-for-3 with two home runs and three RBI.  
  • King, Lopez and Flores drove in one run apiece.
