@BamaState Falls On The Road To South Alabama

MOBILE, Ala. | Alabama State University baseball dropped a 9-4 midweek decision to the University of South Alabama on Tuesday at the Stankdy Field.
 
South Alabama captured a 9-7 win the Hornets to finish a suspended game from April 11 in Montgomery, Ala.

HOW IT HAPPENED | Suspended Game 
  • Tyler Borges singled and scored on a Micah Morgan single to right field to give South Alabama a 1-0 lead in the second.  
  • Ali Lapread delivered a one-out single and Corey King homered to left field to put the Hornets ahead 2-1. 
  • The Jaguars tied the game 2-2 on a Borges RBI single but left the bases loaded in the top of the third.  
  • The combo of Lapread and King struck again in the fourth, this time with two outs. Lapread doubled and King followed with a two-run home run to give the Hornets a 4-2 advantage. 
  • South Alabama plated a run when Colson Lawrence scored on a Will Turner infield single to make the score 4-3 in the sixth.  
  • Jack Hay reached on a error and scored a King double to push the lead 5-3 in the bottom of the sixth.  
  • The Jaguars got RBI singles from Lawrance Coleman and Diego Altamirano to tie the game 5-5 in the top of the ninth.  
  • South Alabama plated four runs in the top of the 10th to take a 9-5 lead. Joseph Sullivan doubled in the go ahead run followed by a Coleman two-run home run and a Micah Morgan solo home run.  
  • Ian Matos and Kyle Kuramoto singled and Kyler McIntosh walked to load the bases in the 10th.  
  • Jack Hay drew a bases loaded walk and Devin Chandler had sac-fly to cut the deficit to 9-7 before a strikeout ended the threat 
ON THE MOUND | Suspended Game 
  • Sebatian Colan (2-3) took the loss for the Hornets. Colon gave up four runs on seven hits wit a pair of strikeouts.  
  • Colson Lawrance (2-0) earned the win for USA, working 3.0 scoreless innings with four strikeouts. 
INSIDE THE BOX  
  • King finished 3-for-5 with two home runs and five RBI.  
  • Lapread was 3-for-3 with a double and three runs scored.  
  • Alabama State is 1-1 in extra-innings this season. 
HOW IT HAPPENED  
  • Flores walked and scored on a two-out single by Jack Hay to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead in the first.  
  • South Alabama scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 4-1 lead. Sullivan drew a walk with the bases loaded and Tyler Borges singled home two runs before an Altamirano RBI single.  
  • The Jaguars added a run to their lead on a Borges RBI double to make the score 5-1 in the third.  
  • Chandler doubled and scored on a two-out single from Kyle Kuramoto to trim the USA lead to 5-2 in the fourth.  
  • Jayden Sloan walked and scored on a two-out single by Jamal George to get the Hornets within two runs, 5-3.  
  • South Alabama answered with a four-run seventh to build the lead 9-3. 
  • The Hornets cut the deficit to 9-4 on a Javian Serrano pinch-hit RBI single. 
ON THE MOUND  
  • Starter Kyler McIntosh (3-3) worked 6.0 innings, yielded five runs on 10 hits with five strikeouts as the pitcher of record for the Hornets 
  • Leif Moore (2-0) had seven strikeouts while giving up three runs on five hits to earn the win.  
INSIDE THE BOX  
  • Hay, Lopez, George, Kuramoto, and Serrano collected singles while Devin Chandler had a double for the Hornets.  
UP NEXT: Alabama State opens a three-game series against Bethune-Cookman on Friday at 6 p.m. at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.
