Hornets Starkville Regional Bound For NCAA DI Men’s Tennis Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. | The Alabama State University Men's Tennis team is headed to the NCAA DI Men's Tennis Starkville Regional to take on Mississippi State University in Starkville, Miss., on May 5. 

The Hornets, who are making their third NCAA tournament appearance in the last five years, will open play on Friday, May 5th against No.15 seed Mississippi State at 2 p.m.

"On behalf of Dr Cable and the Entire University I am beyond excited to be heading back to the NCAA National Championship Stage for two years in a row," said Alabama State Head Men's Tennis Coach Anuk Christiansz.

Alabama State won its sixth SWAC championships since 2015 with a 4-0 win over Jackson State on April 23 in New Orleans, La., to earn the conference's automatic bid and finish off an undefeated season (both regular season and tournament) in conference play.

Team selections for the 2023 NCAA Division I men's tennis championships were announced during the NCAA's Selection Show streamed on NCAA.com on Monday, May 1.

The NCAA men's championship is May 18-27 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida. This is the first time men's and women's championships for DI, DII and DIII will be at a single site. You can get more information on the USTA site, including tickets, how to watch and fan activities.

TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE
Friday, May 5
1st Round Match #1 – Middle Tennessee vs. Tulane - 11 a.m.
1st Round Match #2 – Mississippi State vs. Alabama State - not before 2 p.m.
 
Saturday, May 6
2nd Round Match - Match #1 winner vs. Match #2 winner - 1 p.m.

  • May 5-6 or 6-7: First and second round for the team championship
  • May 12 or 13: Super regionals for the team championship
  • May 18: Quarterfinals for the team championship
  • May 19: Semifinals for the team championship
  • May 20: Team championship final
