Hornets Take 14-1 Win Over MVSU To Sweep Series

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State University baseball scored 11 runs in the first two innings on the way to a 14-1 series-sweeping win over Mississippi Valley State University on Sunday at the MVSU Baseball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • The Hornets scored five runs in the first inning off a Kyler McIntosh two-run home run and an Ali Lapread three-run round tripper to stake the Hornets to a 5-0 lead.  
  • Victor Figueroa singled in a run to get MVSU on the board down 5-1 after the first inning. 
  • Alabama State scored six runs on five hits in the second to build an 11-1 lead.  Randy Flores led off with a solo home run and Trent Jamison had an RBI single. 
  • Alabama State added three runs in the sixth to make the score 15-1. Matos led off the inning with a solo homer and Cristian Lopez had an RBI single to highlight the inning. 
ON THE MOUND 
  • Shadai Colon (4-0) struck out five while giving up one run on five hits in 5.0 innings pitched as the pitcher of record for the Hornts. 
  • Zach Sigmon (0-1) took the loos after allowing nine runs on seven hits with three walks for MVSU. 
INSIDE THE BOX 
  • Alabama State hit four home runs and 14 in the series to run its SWAC leading total to 75. 
  • Alabama State had double digit hits for the 309 time this season, pounding out 17 hits. \
  • Hay went 3-for-3 with three runs scored.  
  • Matos had three hits including a solo home run and a double. 
  • Lapread was 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and three RBI. 
  • Lopez and McIntosh drove in two runs apiece.
