MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State University Senior Associate Athletic Director Dr. Genese Lavalais has been appointed to the NCAA AASP Grant Selection Committee. Lavalais' team began on July 1, 2023.

The AASP Selection Committee is responsible for reviewing applications and selecting recipients for the AASP comprehensive grant, initiatives grant and career development award. Additionally, this committee oversees and conducts both midyear and end-of-year grant renewal meetings with representatives from each of the AASP-funded schools.
 
Lavalais is responsible for providing academic support, helping student-athletes navigate during their collegiate years, and helping students to identify transferrable skills for life after sports.  Additionally, she assisted in student-athlete development by showcasing personal and professional growth opportunities through community service opportunities, graduation planning, course registration, and understanding academic policies and procedures.
