CINCINNATI, Ohio |Alabama State dropped its final match of the Tribute to #10 tournament to Xavier 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-20).
Christyn Ashby recorded a career-high 13 kills in the loss, while
Jada Rhodes added five and
Kaylen Hines added four.
Madison Beasley led the Lady Hornets with 13 assists and seven digs, while
Emily Brooks added nine assists and two service aces.
Meanwhile,
Temperance Chatman added six digs.
Xavier (3-0) finished the match hitting .352 (including .400 in set two and .500 in set three), while Alabama State (0-3) finished the match hitting .137 (including .310 in the third set).
SET 1 | Xavier seized the first lead of the set and opened it to 3-1 before Alabama State used kills from Rhodes and Ashby to close to within 4-3. Xavier opened the lead to four (9-4) before the Lady Hornets used a kill from
A'Nylah Cobb and a kill from Rhodes to pull to within a point at 9-8. They were able to get it to 11-10 with back-to-back points and again at 15-14 on a kill from Hines before Xavier scored eight of the last 10 points to win the opening set.
SET 2 | Xavier scored the first two points of the set before Alabama State got on the board, however, Xavier went on a 4-0 to open a 6-1 lead. The Lady Hornets pulled to within 6-3 before Xavier opened a seven-point lead by scoring four of six points. Following a kill from Ashby to pull Alabama State to within 16-10, Xavier went on a 3-0 run to pull away.
SET 3 | Alabama State grabbed the early lead and the two traded points until Xavier scored back-to-back points to take a 4-2 lead. The Lady Hornets answered with a 3-0 run highlighted by a pair of service aces from Brooks to take a 5-4 lead. The two traded points until Alabama State went on a 3-0 run highlighted by a kill fro
m Taila Gaines and another by Hines to open a 9-6 lead. After a Xavier run, Alabama State took a 10-9 lead on a kill from Gaines before Xavier went on a 4-0 run to take a 13-10 lead. After Xavier took a 22-15 lead, the Lady Hornets went on a 3-0 run to pull to within 22-18. However, the two teams traded points with Xavier claiming the win.
