Alabama State Notes
- For the first time since the 2018-19 season, Alabama State opened up conference play winning four of its first five games. That year, the Hornets finished 9-9 in Southwestern Athletic Conference [SWAC] play before falling to Texas Southern in the conference semifinals [80-66] in Birmingham. The Hornets, as of Jan. 21, found themselves tied atop the conference standings with Grambling State.
- Range hit his 1,000th career point against Jackson State [1/11/24] on a three-pointer with 9:45 to play in the game. He started his career with 281 points at Tarleton State, while Madlock hit his 1,000th career point in the second half against Alcorn State [1/13/24] after starting his career with 395 points at South Carolina State. The duo, along with Hines [transfer from Faulkner] have combined for 3,732 points during their careers. The duo joins 25 others who have scored 1,000 career points [while not all at Alabama State].
- Alabama State ventures into the state of Texas for the first time since 2022 to face Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern. The Hornets last win in the state against either team came against Prairie View A&M in 2016 [73-68, 2/27/16]. The last time the Hornets swept the two teams came during the 2010 season when the Hornets defeated Prairie View A&M 52-43 [3/1/10] and Texas Southern 69-61 [2/27/10].
- Micah Octave has recorded at last one steal in all 18 games for the Hornets this season, including four against Jackson State [1/11] at home in the last contest. The Hornets are currently 18th in the nation as a team at 9.3 steals per game. Jacob Gilyard of Richmond who went on to set the NCAA D-I career steals record, recorded a steal in his first 25 games in 2017-18. He ended up recording a steal in 31 of the 32 games played that season.Â
