MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State won its first match of the year, winning its home opener 4-3 over AUM at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.
Alabama State (1-1) claimed the doubles point with a clean sweep of all three matches, all in straight sets. The No. 2 team of
Matis Amier and
Alexandre Verlaguet won a 6-2 decision, while the Hornets won at No. 1 and No.3 by identical 7-5 scores. The team of
Matteo Lataste and
David Jeanne Grandinot won at the top spot, while the team of
Samrakshyak Bajracharya and
Lun Obrul won at the third spot.
The Hornets won three of the five singles matches including two of the top three spots. Bajracharya won 7-5, 6-2 at No. 2 singles and Amier won in three sets (6-7, 6-4, 6-2) at number three. The third win in singles play came at No. 6 with
Kristofer Johnson winning 6-3, 6-4. Two of the three losses in singles play came in three sets, and the other was a tiebreaker in the second set.
