Hornets Fall to No.22 Florida A&M On Homecoming

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Alabama State University had 211yards showing on the ground, including 138 yards from Jamarie Hostzclaw, but fell 28-13 to Florida A&M Saturday afternoon at home at ASU Stadium.

The Rattlers improved to 3-2 on the year and 1-0 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play, while the Hornets fell to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in conference matchups.

Hostzclaw paced the Hornets rushing attack by accumulating 138 yards over the course of the game, averaging 6.9 yards per carry. Daquon Kincey also added 31 yards on the ground, averaging 4.4 yards per carry and Tacaris Bozeman had a touchdown on the ground.

Asa Gregg hauled in one catch for 51 yards.

Dasheen Jackson showed out for the Alabama State defense, totaling one interception. James Burgess added three tackles, one interception, and one forced fumble and Keane Lewis had one recovered fumble in the loss.

The Hornets won the turnover battle in Saturday's game, forcing four turnovers while coughing the ball up three times, with Alabama State turning those takeaways into three points. Alabama State had a stellar performance on the ground, racking up 211 rushing yards while averaging 5 yards per carry and out-rushing Florida A&M by 99 yards.

Alabama State's defense held up against Florida A&M's offense, allowing 308 total yards. The Hornets defense disrupted the Florida A&M passing game on the way to pulling down two interceptions and breaking up five Rattlers passes.

How It Happened

Alabama State responded to a 7-0 lead from Florida A&M with a score to tie it up at 7-7 with 3:24 left in the first quarter.Florida A&M then scored to take a 14-7 lead before the Hornets put a field goal on the board to close the gap and make it a 14-10 game.

After Florida A&M scored to expand its lead to 21-10, Alabama State scored again with 4:40 remaining in the fourth quarter to cut into the lead and make it a 21-13 game. Alabama State didn't score again in the game and Florida A&M added seven more points to finish off the scoring.
