MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The Alabama State men's basketball team rolled to a 115-64 victory over Virginia-Lynchburg Monday evening from the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.
The Hornets (1-2) had six players score in double figures, led by CJ Hines, who had 21 points and three steals. Micah Simpson tacked on 15 points, five assists, and five steals off of the bench. Jalen Keago chipped in with 14 points and seven rebounds off the bench.
The ASU offense was strong from beyond the arc, knocking down 13 threes. Tyler Mack hit four treys for the Hornets in the contest.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 42-32 advantage, ASU went on an 8-0 run with 2:28 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Hines, to increase its lead to 50-32, a score that would hold until halftime. ASU did most of its first-half damage in the paint, scoring 36 of its 50 points close to the basket.
Following intermission, ASU kept widening that lead, expanding it to 88-48 before going on an 11-0 run, finished off by Mack's three, to grow the lead to 99-48 with 6:31 to go in the contest. The Hornets held onto that lead for the rest of the game for the 115-64 win. ASU shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting 10 shots from deep to score 30 of its 65 points.
