Lady Hornets Closeout Regular Season with Sweep over Southern

MONTGOMERY, Ala. --The Alabama State volleyball team got the job done in three sets (25-21, 25-14, 25-16) to defeat the Southern Lady Jaguars Monday at home at Lockhart Gymnasium.

The Lady Hornets attack was paced by Jyriah Morgan, who finished with 11 kills on the day while accumulating a hitting percentage of .348, and by A'Nylah Cobb, who had 11 while hitting .273. ASU received 10 digs from Breanna Swanson to lead them defensively.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Lady Hornets earned a set-one victory 25-21 propelled by a solid showing on the attacking side. ASU registered a .361 attack percentage with 17 kills in the set win. After the lead changed hands four times, the Lady Hornets took control for good at 22-21 and rode that advantage to victory.

SET 2 | ASU took set two 25-14 to grab a 2-0 lead swiftly. The Lady Hornets scored first and never trailed in the set to earn the victory. Alabama State opened its biggest lead of the stanza, 11 points, to finish off the set. The Lady Hornets hit .379 throughout the set.

SET 3 | ASU finished off the match in a 3-0 sweep after winning set three. The Lady Hornets grabbed control of the set early when the score was 2-1 and held the lead the rest of the way to win 25-16. ASU led by as many as 10 points at 24-14 before closing out the stanza. ASU's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four Southern attacks in the stanza and capitalizing on 10 Southern attacking errors on the way to victory.
