NICEVILLE, Fla. | The Alabama State women's basketball team got an 18-point performance from the bench, but fell 83-33 to the University of Alabama at the Emerald Coast Classic at Raider Arena on Monday.
Cordasia Harris led the Hornets (2-3) with eight points and two blocks. Emani Wofford tacked on five points and three steals off of the bench and Taylor Smith helped out with two points and three steals.
Alabama State forced 19 Alabama turnovers. The Hornets turned those takeaways into 10 points on the other end of the floor. Smith's three steals led the way for Alabama State.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Alabama State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 26-8 at the end of the first quarter.
The Hornets continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 46-20 halftime deficit.
Alabama State's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Hornets faced a 68-27 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Alabama State played well near the basket, scoring four of its seven points in the paint.
Alabama State could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 83-33. Alabama State took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring six of its six points in the paint.
