NICEVILLE, Fla. | The Alabama State women's basketball team got a 37-point showing from the bench, but fell 76-43 to the UAB on day two of the Emerald Coast Classic at Raider Arena on Tuesday.
Taylor Smith led the Hornets (2-4) with 13 points. Alanah Pooler added eight points off the bench and Justina Graham helped out with eight points off the bench.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After falling behind 14-8, Alabama State went on a 5-0 run with 2:57 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Pooler, to narrow its deficit to 14-13. UAB answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Hornets down 19-15 entering the second quarter.
UAB kept adding to that lead, building a 25-15 advantage before Alabama State went on a 5-0 run, highlighted by a three from Smith, to narrow its deficit to 25-20. UAB responded and expanded its lead, leaving the Hornets trailing 36-24 heading into halftime.
Alabama State's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Hornets faced a 54-33 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Alabama State's bench made the most of its minutes in the period, as non-starters totaled seven of the team's nine third-quarter points.
Alabama State could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 76-43. Alabama State took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring eight of its 10 points in the paint.
