MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Essence Jones and A'Nylah Cobb each registered double-doubles, but the Alabama State volleyball team lost to the Florida A&M Rattlerettes 3-1 (22-25, 24-26, 25-22, 22-25) Friday at home at Lockhart Gymnasium.
The loss dropped Alabama State's record to 8-16 overall and 5-6 in SWAC action.
The Lady Hornets were led by the double-doubles from Jones, who had 12 kills and 13 digs, and Cobb, who had 14 kills and 16 digs. Jyriah Morgan added eight kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Breanna Swanson chipped in for with 13 digs to go with eight blocks from Christyn Ashby.

SET 1 | The Lady Hornets came up short in a back-and-forth first set, losing 25-22 in a game that featured three lead changes and was tied seven times. Neither team led by more than three points in the match.
SET 2 | A 26-24 second-set loss put Alabama State in a 2-0 deficit in the match. The Lady Hornets lost set two in spite of a solid performance on the attacking end. Alabama State put together a .361 attack percentage with 17 kills in the set loss.
SET 3 | Alabama State avoided a sweep after a victory in set three to make it a 2-1 match. The Lady Hornets scored first and never trailed in the set to earn a 25-22 victory. Alabama State opened up as much as a 10 point lead at 15-5 before finishing off the set, collecting 15 kills along the way.
SET 4 | Alabama State couldn't build off the set-three victory and fell in the fourth set 25-22 to drop the match. The Lady Hornets came up short in a back-and-forth set, losing in a stanza that featured three lead changes and was tied 10 times. Neither team opened up a lead of more than three points along the way.
