MONTGOMERY,, Ala. | -The Alabama State University volleyball team fell to the Bethune-Cookman Lady Wildcats in five sets (20-25, 25-19, 20-25, 25-18, 12-15) Sunday at Lockhart Gymnasium.
The loss dropped Alabama State's record to 8-17 overall and 5-7 in SWAC action, splitting the season series with BCU.
The Lady Hornets offense was paced by Christyn Ashby, who finished with 17 kills while accumulating a hitting percentage of .375. Kaylen Hines added 13 and A'Nylah Cobb chipped in with 13 as part of a Alabama State attack that had four players with double-digit kills. Defensively, had two players reach double figures in digs as Breanna Swanson had 23 and Taylor Williams had 10.

SET 1 | The Lady Hornets lost the first set 25-20 in spite of a solid showing on the attacking end. Alabama State put together a .378 attack percentage with 17 kills in the set loss.
SET 2 | Alabama State rallied from a first-set loss to take set two 25-19, evening the match at one set apiece. The Lady Hornets grabbed control of the set lead early on at 4-3 and never looked back. Alabama State led by as many as seven points at 16-9 before finishing off the set, collecting 16 kills along the way. The Alabama State offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza. Alabama State's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four Bethune-Cookman attacks in the stanza.
SET 3 | Alabama State lost the third set, putting the Lady Hornets in a 2-1 hole. The Lady Hornets came up short by the score of 25-20. Alabama State trailed by as many as six points as Bethune-Cookman grabbed the advantage for good at 16-15 in a set that was tied up seven times before the Lady Wildcats took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 4 | Alabama State then responded to win set four 25-18 to force a fifth set. A solid performance on the attacking end led the Lady Hornets to victory in the set. Alabama State registered a .462 attack percentage with 15 kills in the set win. The Lady Hornets ended on a strong note, stretching their lead to its largest point in the set to finish out the stanza. Alabama State got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked four Bethune-Cookman attacks in the stanza.
SET 5 | Alabama State was on the wrong side of a back-and-forth match, winning the second and fourth sets, but losing the first, third and fifth, which they dropped by the score of 15-12, to fall in the match. The Lady Hornets battled back from a seven-point deficit at 12-5, but Bethune-Cookman held on to win the fifth set.
