MONTGMERY, Ala. | The Alabama State University women's basketball placed three players in double figures in a 63-46 loss to the Unvieristy of West Georgia Wolves at the Dunn-Oliver Acadeome on Wednesday.
Kaitlyn Bryant led the Lady Hornets with13 points and three steals followed by Taylor Smith tacked on 10 points and Cordasia Harris helped out with 10 points and six rebounds.
Alabama State's defense held West Georgia to only 15.8 percent shooting from beyond the arc. The Hornets also limited Zuriyah Davis to 1-of-9 shooting from downtown and seven points in the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Alabama State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 17-7 at the end of the first quarter.
The Hornets continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 41-19 halftime deficit.
Alabama State's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Hornets faced a 51-27 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Alabama State played well near the basket, scoring four of its eight points in the paint.
West Georgia kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 59-33 advantage before Alabama State went on a 10-0 run, finished off by Smith's three, to shrink the deficit to 59-43 with 1:05 to go in the contest. West Georgia responded and outscored the Hornets the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 63-46. Alabama State took advantage of four West Georgia turnovers in the quarter, scoring five points off of those takeaways.
