MONTGOMERY, Ala. |The Alabama State University men's and women's track and field teams will open its 2024-25 Indoor Meet schedule on Friday at the Birmingham Indoor Icebreaker.
The Hornets and Lady Hornets will compete against nationally ranked fields in six meets over their indoor schedule, which includes four events at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham.

Following the Birmingham Indoor Icebreaker, Alabama State competes at the University of Kentucky (Jan. 10), Vanderbilt (Jan. 17), and Clemson (2.7).
The Hornets and Lady Hornets return to the Birmingham CrossPlex for three straight events, starting with the UAB Green and Gold Invitational (2.7), the Samford Bulldog Invitational (2.14), and the SWAC Indoor Championships (2.22-23).
The NCAA Championships will be in Virginia Beach, Virginia, on March 14-15).
The Lady Hornets look to regain the SWAC Indoor Track and Field title after finishing runner-up to Florida A&M before winning the 2024 SWAC Outdoor title in the spring.
Shamia Jones highlighted the season as the Indoor Track Athlete of the Year. Jones, who won the SWAC Cross Country Individual title in the fall, won the SWAC one-mile and 3000-meter events while posting three top-three finishes.
Quincy Penn won the 400-meters, and
Taliah Wickett claimed gold in the 800-meters.
Jamarion Stubbs returns after a banner indoor and outdoor year.
Stubbs was crowned the fastest man in the SWAC with championships in both the 60-meter and 200-meter sprints. Stubbs tied his facility (CrossPlex) record set in the prelims with a 6.67 before running a 20.94 in the 200-meters.
In the outdoor season, Stubbs advance out of the NCAA East Regional to the nationals, posting a seventh-place finish. Stubbs also qualified for the Olympic trials, where he won his heat to advance to the finals.
Vaughn DeVaughn III and
Jon Coulter finished second in the 60-meter hurdles and one-mile run, respectively. DeVaughn III ran a time of 8.22 seconds in the hurdles, while Coulter ran a personal best in the mile at 4:28.11. DeVaughn III also scored points for the Hornets in the 400 meters with a personal best of 48.79 seconds.
