MONTGOMERY, Ala. --Freshman Isaiah Landry racked up four hits to help lead the Alabama State University tp a 16=5 win over the Valparaiso University on Friday at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.
Junior Jose Almazan (1-0) started on the mound and picked up the win for Alabama State (1-0). The right-hander went five innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on four hits, allowing one walk and striking out five.
In addition to his four hits, Landry had a double, a triple and three RBI to lead the Hornets. Senior Cristian Lopez furnished a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, a walk and five RBI. Sophomore Jamal George also contributed for Alabama State, putting together three hits in five trips to the plate while adding a double, a home run and two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets scored in seven different innings on the way to victory. Alabama State broke a 1-1 tie and took the lead for good at 2-1 in the third inning on an RBI triple off the bat of Landry, scoring freshman Juan Cruz.
