Alabama Drops Game One of Twin Bill to Valparaiso

MONTGOMERY, Ala. --The Alabama State Hornets had a tough showing on Saturday, falling to the Valparaiso Beacons 8-2 despite the efforts of freshman Quentin Jenkins, who went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Sophomore Jorhan Laboy (0-1) got the ball to start for Alabama State (1-1) and took the loss.

Offensively, the Hornets were led by Jenkins, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a double and an RBI. Senior Randy Flores put together a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 2-for-5. Senior Cristian Lopez also chipped in for Alabama State, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hornets were trailing 4-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board. Alabama State got an RBI single from Jenkins, scoring senior Ali LaPread from third base.

The Hornets kept the Beacons off the board before narrowing the gap further in the seventh. Alabama State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Lopez, which brought the score to 4-2 in favor of the Beacons. The Hornets were unable to get any closer, as Valparaiso added four runs to their tally on the way to an 8-2 final.
