BATON ROUGE, La. | Alabama State University baseball had five players recorded multiple hits, but the Hornets fell 10-6 to the Southern University on Sunday.
Sophomore Devin Brooks (1-1) got the ball to start for Alabama State (8-6, ) and took the loss.
Senior Ali LaPread led the hit barrage for the Hornets, going 2-for-5 in the ballgame with a double. Senior Jack Hay put together a standout day at the plate as well, going 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets were trailing 4-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Hay drove in two runs for Alabama State with a single, that scored freshman Q. Jenkins and LaPread.
The Hornets kept the deficit at 4-2 before tying the score in the fifth. Alabama State picked up a pair of runs in the frame, which brought the score level at 4-4.
Southern busted up the tie and took a 6-4 lead heading into the seventh, when Alabama State closed the gap to 6-5. The Hornets scored a run on Hay's two-out solo home run off senior Burkett.
Alabama State kept the Jaguars off the board before tying it up in the eighth. The Hornets added a run on senior C. Lopez's leadoff homer off Burkett, evening the score at 6-6. Southern then scored four times over the remaining one inning to break the tie and grab the 10-6 win.
