MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Freeshman Isaiah Landry recorded two extra base hits but Alabama State fell to the Jacksonville State University 16-4 on Tuesday night at Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.
Junior Kyler McIntosh (0-1) started and took the loss on the mound for Alabama State (8-7). Junior Caio Araujo was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit.
Landry's two extra base hits were the highlight of a 2-for-4 day, and included a triple, a home run and an RBI. Senior Randy Flores put together a noteworthy effort as well, going 2-for-3 with a triple, a walk and two RBI. Senior Ali LaPread also helped out for the Hornets, putting together one hit in one trip to the plate while adding three walks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 10-0, the Hornets first put runs on the board in the third inning. Alabama State got an RBI single from McIntosh, scoring senior Jack Hay from second base.
The Gamecocks expanded their lead to 13-1 before the Hornets offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the fourth. Alabama State picked up a couple on a two-run triple from Flores, which brought the score to 13-3 in favor of the Gamecocks.
Jacksonville State expanded their lead to 16-3 before the Alabama State offense got going, reducing that lead to 16-4 in the seventh. The Hornets scored a run on Landry's two-out solo home run off senior Kyle Chastine. The Hornets were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
