ATLANTA, Ga. | Junior Kyler McIntosh racked up four RBIs, but the Alabama State baseball fell to the Georgia State University 16-6 on Tuesday.
Freshman Jafet Martinez (2-2) started and took the loss on the mound for Alabama State (19-20).
McIntosh went 1-for-4 with a double in addition to his four RBIs for the Hornets. Freshman Quentin Jenkins compiled a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Senior Randy Flores also contributed for Alabama State, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets were trailing 8-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Alabama State got an RBI single from Jenkins, scoring senior Jack Hay from second base.
The Panthers expanded their lead to 12-1 before the Hornets offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the fifth. Flores came across to score the lone run of the inning for Alabama State, which brought the score to 12-2 in favor of the Panthers.
Alabama State kept the Panthers off the scoreboard before narrowing the gap to 12-6 in the sixth. The Hornets bats heated up in the inning, scoring four runs, including a three-run double off the bat of McIntosh. The Hornets were unable to get any closer, as Georgia State added four runs to their tally on the way to a 16-6 final.
