TALLAHASSEE, Fla. } Alabama State University got contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, but the Hornets fell to the Florida A&M University 9-4 on Saturday.
Sophomore Jorhan Laboy (3-3) got the ball to start for Alabama State (13-15, 5-5) and took the loss.
In the batter's box, the Hornets were led by sophomore Devin Chandler, who went 2-for-5 on the day with a double and an RBI. Senior Jack Hay put together a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 2-for-4 with a walk and an RBI. Sophomore Jamal George also chipped in for Alabama State, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Alabama State got an RBI single from Hay, scoring senior Ali LaPread from second base.
After the Rattlers rallied to tie the ballgame at one, the Hornets came back to retake the lead in the third inning. Alabama State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Chandler, which brought the score to 2-1 in favor of the Hornets.
Alabama State's lead had disappeared by the time the ninth inning arrived and turned into a 9-2 Florida A&M advantage, when the Hornets cut that deficit to 9-4. The ballgame ended with that ninth inning rally falling short.
