MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State University Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Jason Cable announced Porsha Redd will take over as the school's new Head Cheer Coach.
"I am excited to announce Porsha Redd as the next cheer coach at Alabama State University," said Cable. "Coach Redd brings significant experience in cheerleading, having coached at the high school level in Montgomery and successfully operated her competitive all-star program, leading it to a national championship. She is a pillar of the community, and I am delighted to welcome her to Alabama State."
Redd brings over 20 years of experience in school and all-star
cheerleading. Redd has an extensive background in
cheerleading and gymnastics, having served as a cheerleader, gymnastics instructor, coach, judge, consultant, and choreographer.
"I am honored to have been chosen by Dr. Cable to lead the cheer squad," Redd said. "Returning to my Alma Mater fills me with excitement as I look forward to carrying on the traditions that shaped me as a cheerleader, while also working towards elevating the program to new heights.
She taught gymnastics locally and coached at two high schools in Montgomery. While coaching locally, Redd began her competitive all-star program, which won its first national title in its second year. During that time, she has claimed titles such as
SWAC High Champion and WCA National Champion.
