MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Alabama State used a strong rushing attack and tough defense to dispatch Miles College 24-3 Saturday evening at ASU Stadium
The victory improved Alabama State's record to 1-1 on the season while the Golden Bears fell to 0-2.
James Hayes led Alabama State's passing attack with 88 yards through the air, tossing two touchdowns and one interception.
Daquon Kincey totaled 137 yards to lead the Hornets' ground attack and added one touchdown in the game, picking up 10.5 yards per carry. Jamarie Hostzclaw also tacked 56 yards on the ground, picking up 4.7 yards per carry.
Asa Gregg reeled in one catch for 60 yards and one score.
Treqwan Thomas showed out for the ASU defense, collecting six tackles, 3.0 TFL, three sacks, and three forced fumbles. James Burgess added three tackles and one interception and Amon Scarbrough had three tackles and one interception in the win.
The Hornets won the turnover battle in Saturday's game, forcing four turnovers while coughing the ball up two times.
ASU badgered the Miles passing attack all game long, registering four sacks and grabbing two interceptions.
How It Happened
ASU scored first and took a 7-0 lead on the game's opening drive. The Hornets then expanded the lead to 10-0 with another score.
The Hornets kept building its advantage after Miles made it a 10-3 game, scoring again with 4:22 remaining in the second quarter to go ahead 17-3. The Hornets continued to expand their lead, scoring again to go on top 24-3. Neither team scored again in the game.
