MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Alabama State fell 2–0 to Prairie View A&M on Friday evening at the ASU Soccer Complex in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play.
The Lady Panthers (2-8-2, 1-1-1 SWAC) scored once in each half to secure the win over the Lady Hornets (1-13-1, 0-4-0). Destiny Barragán opened the scoring in the 41st minute, finishing a pass from Emely Reyes to give Prairie View a 1–0 halftime lead. In the 50th minute, Emily Apodaca added an unassisted goal to double the advantage.
Alabama State put together several offensive chances, outshooting Prairie View 10–9 overall and earning three corner kicks. Adriana Gallucci led the Hornets with three shots and freshman forward Emmanuella Yapi provided a spark off the bench with two shots, including one on goal, while Savannah Singleton, Zeta Chevalier, Jordan Williams and Sydney Washington also tested Prairie View's keeper.
Goalkeeper Corrine Brookes recorded four saves in a complete 90-minute performance for the Lady Hornets.
Despite a balanced 50–50 possession battle, Alabama State was unable to break through Prairie View's back line.
ASU will host Texas Southern Sunday, Oct. 12 at 1 p.m. Six Hornet seniors will be honored before the match.
