MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Alabama State dropped a hard-fought five-set match to Prairie View A&M (26–28, 25–20, 25–15, 23–25, 13–15) Friday night inside Lockhart Gymnasium.The match featured 29 ties and 15 lead changes over the five sets.
Jyriah Morgan led the Alabama State attack with a match-high 33 kills, hitting .458 on the night and providing consistent offense throughout. Kaylen Hines followed with11 kills and a team-high three total blocks, while Kamrynn Clay added a match-best 42 assists and 13 digs for a double-double performance. Brooke Adams added 13 digs and Breanna Swanson finished the night with 11 digs as the Hornets completed play with 64 digs for the match.
After dropping a close first set, 28–26, Alabama State bounced back strong — taking the second set 25–20 behind a balanced offense that hit .262. The Hornets dominated the third, cruising to a 25–15 win to grab a 2–1 match lead.
Prairie View, however, rallied late. The Panthers edged ASU 25–23 in the fourth and held off a late Hornet push in the decisive fifth set, 15–13, to seal the win. The Hornets finished the match with 69 kills to 67 for the Panthers, but the visitors had eight blocks compared to only four for ASU.
The Hornets will continue the current homestand Sunday, Oct. 26 at noon when they play host to Texas Southern at Lockhart Gymnasium.
