MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Alabama State men's basketball opened its 2025–26 campaign in dominant fashion, cruising to a 101–63 exhibition win over Ecclesia on Thursday night at the Dunn–Oliver Acadome.
The Hornets showcased balance and depth, placing two players in double figures and shooting 50 percent from the field. Senior guard Asjon Anderson led the way with 23 points, including four three-pointers, while Tyler Byrd added 12 points, seven assists, and three steals in an all-around effort.
Cameron Palesse nearly recorded a double-double with nine points, eight rebounds, and Jequarius Stanback controlled the glass with 12 rebounds to go along with six points. Freshman R'Chaun King made an impressive debut, scoring nine points on perfect 3-for-3 shooting, while Micah Simpson and Trey Miller chipped in nine points apiece.
Alabama State dominated the paint with a 60-20 scoring advantage inside, outrebounded the Royals 51-35, and tallied 29 points off turnovers. The Hornets' bench also delivered, contributing 45 points in the blowout win.
Defensively, ASU forced 21 turnovers and held Ecclesia to just 34.5 percent shooting from the floor. Christian Ford led the Royals with 19 points, while Amarion Hoggan added 11 points and seven rebounds.
After taking a 43–31 lead into halftime, the Hornets erupted for 58 points in the second half, extending their advantage to as many as 40 late in the game.
The Hornets will hit the road to open regular season action as they play Florida State, Friday, Nov. 7 at 5 p.m. CT.
