HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Alabama State's comeback fell short Friday afternoon with a 4–2 setback to rival Alabama A&M at the AAMU Soccer Field. The Lady Hornets rallied in the second half but couldn't overcome an early four-goal deficit.
Alabama A&M (8-8-1, 5-2-1 SWAC) struck early, scoring four times in a 25-minute span in the first half. Czaske Deane opened the scoring in the 8th minute off a pass from Anita Frederick-Sigaran, who went on to assist on two more goals. Brea Bailey doubled the Bulldogs' lead in the 24th minute before Charlotte Cuthbertson added a brace with goals in the 29th and 33rd minutes.
Alabama State (2-16-1, 1-7-0 SWAC) got on the board just before halftime when Serenity Safeeullah found the net in the 45th minute, marking her third goal of the season. The Lady Hornets carried that momentum into the second half, where Jordan Williams scored in the 48th minute off an assist from Adriana Gallucci to make it 4–2.
Despite outshooting Alabama A&M 10–8 and holding a 5–2 edge in corner kicks, the Lady Hornets couldn't close the gap. Goalkeeper Corrine Brookes tallied three saves in 90 minutes, while A&M's Adriana Durango recorded seven saves to earn the win.
