HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- The Alabama State University tennis teams had a solid performance at the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Fall Tournament held at the Bulldog Tennis Center in Huntsville.
In women's singles action,
Kesmat El Tawil,
Diana Craciun and
Cleanne Pickel all advanced through the Round of 16 and the quarterfinals. El Tawil and teammate Craciun met up in the semifinals with El Tawil advancing into the finals and Pickel's run finished in the semis as well, while El Tawil was able to finish as the runner-up in the singles division.
In the women's doubles action, the ASU team of
Melisa Mekic and Craciun defeated Southern and Florida A&M to make their way into the championship where they defeated Jackson State for the doubles title.
In men's action,
Milan Ristov and
Eloi Roux both advanced into the semifinals where Ristove defeated Alabama A&M to move into the finals, while Roux fell in his semifinal round.
Ristove was able to pick up the singles title with an exciting three-set win over Alabama A&M.
In doubles action, the doubles team of
Vid Maric and
Gordan Fran Mileusnic advanced all the way into the finals before falling to Alabama A&M to finish as the runners-up.
Fall tennis action will come to a close on the men's side this weekend at the ITA Fall Regional to be held Oct. 8-12 at the Alabama Tennis Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala., while the women will finish fall action at the ITA Fall Regional which is held in Auburn, Ala., Oct. 13-18 at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
