BATON ROUGE, La. | Alabama State volleyball powered to its fourth straight victory with a decisive 3-0 road sweep of Southern University at Seymour Gymnasium.
The Hornets controlled the match from the start, winning by the scores of 25-20, 25-20 and 25-15 behind a balanced attack, steady serve pressure, and a dominant defensive presence at the net.
With the win, Alabama State improved to 12-16 overall and 11-4 in SWAC play, continuing its late-season surge.
Jones, Hines and McQueen lead an efficient offense
Alabama State's offense was locked in from the opening serve, hitting .333 as a team, including a blistering .419 in the closing set.

Essence Jones delivered one of her most efficient performances of the season, finishing with 14 kills on a .462 hitting percentage while adding three blocks.

Kaylen Hines turned in a standout two-way outing with 10 kills, a .273 hitting percentage and four total blocks, capping her night with the match-winning kill in the third set.

Madisynne McQueen was electric in transition, posting nine kills while hitting .412.
Setter Kamrynn Clay orchestrated the offense with precision, handing out 45 assists—an average of 15 per set—while libero Brooke Adams steadied the Hornets in the back row with a team-high 13 digs.
Hornets set the tone early
Alabama State seized momentum quickly in the opening frame, jumping out to a 3–0 lead and maintaining separation throughout. Jones and Willis fueled the early push, combining for several timely kills. Southern rallied within two late, but the Hornets' sideout execution proved too strong as they closed the set 25–20.
Set 2: Hines takes over
The second set showcased Alabama State's depth and composure. With Southern threatening at 12–12, the Hornets responded with a critical run sparked by a Hines service ace, a McQueen kill, and timely defensive plays at the net. The Hornets again pulled away late to win another 25–20 set, taking a 2–0 match lead.
Set 3: Alabama State dominates at the net
The third set was all Hornets. Alabama State overwhelmed Southern at the net with three team blocks, including a trio of rejections involving Jones, Hines, and Morgan. The Hornets unleashed an 11–3 run to push the lead to 20–9, effectively sealing the match.
Jones and McQueen closed out the night with authoritative swings, and Hines' final kill punctuated the 25–15 clincher.

Alabama State's serve game was sharp throughout, racking up 10 aces while limiting errors. The Hornets posted 5.0 total blocks and held Southern to just .161 hitting for the match, including .000 in the opening set.
