MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- TJ Madlock knocked down a shot with 12 seconds remaining in the game to put the Alabama State men's basketball team up for good in a 60-59 win over the Florida A&M Rattlers at home Saturday.
Amarr Knox led the Hornets (13-14, 9-5) with 17 points, six rebounds and four steals. Micah Octave also added seven points, nine rebounds and two steals and Jasteven Walker chipped in as well with eight points.
Led by Octave's four offensive rebounds, Alabama State did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 17 boards that resulted in 15 second-chance points.
Alabama State forced 15 Florida A&M turnovers while committing just six themselves in Saturday's game. The Hornets turned those takeaways into 16 points on the offensive end of the floor. Knox's four steals led the way for Alabama State.
How It Happened
Alabama State entered halftime tied at 23-23 after a tightly contested first half. Alabama State got the job done in the paint in the first half, scoring 16 of its 23 points close to the basket.
Florida A&M then snagged a 27-25 advantage before Alabama State responded by going on a 7-0 run, finished off by Walker's layup, to seize a 32-27 lead with 16:44 to go in the contest. The Rattlers narrowed the margin somewhat before the game ended, but the Hornets still held on for the 60-59 win. Alabama State capitalized on eight Florida A&M turnovers in the period, collecting 10 points.
