Alabama State Comes Up Short vs. Bethune-Cookman

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - TJ Madlock, Amarr Knox, and CJ Hines combined to score 53 of Alabama State's 68 total points, but the Hornets fell to the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats 70-68 at home Monday.

Madlock led the Hornets (13-15, 9-6) with 23 points, eight rebounds and two steals. Knox added 17 points and two steals and Hines chipped in with 13 points, four assists, and two steals.

Alabama State forced 19 Bethune-Cookman turnovers while committing just five themselves in Monday's game. The Hornets turned those takeaways into 27 points on the offensive end of the floor. Madlock's two steals led the way for Alabama State.

How It Happened

After falling behind 31-23, Alabama State went on a 10-0 run with 2:31 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Madlock. This gave Alabama State a 33-31 lead, which would hold until halftime. Alabama State capitalized on 13 Bethune-Cookman turnovers in the period, turning them into 18 points on the other end of the floor.

Bethune-Cookman proceeded to take a 49-41 lead before Alabama State went on a 9-0 run to seize a 50-49 lead with 9:12 to go in the contest. Bethune-Cookman re-asserted control, outscoring the Hornets 21-18 the rest of the way to hand Alabama State the 70-68 loss. Alabama State capitalized on six Bethune-Cookman turnovers in the period, collecting nine points.
