MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State University baseball rallied from a 2-0 deficit to earn a 4-2 SWAC win over Jackson State at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex on Saturday.
The Hornets tied the game 2-2 in the sixth before scoreing two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to take the lead for good.
Freshman Trey Power (2-2) got the win out of the bullpen for Alabama State (18-18, ). The left-hander went 3.1 shutout innings, giving up three hits, two walks and striking out two. Junior Esaid Pena started the ballgame and went 5.2 innings, surrendering two runs, zero earned, on four hits, walking two and striking out seven.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 2-0, the Hornets first put runs on the board in the sixth inning. Freshman Alex Espaillat drove in two runs for Alabama State with a single, that scored junior Kameron Douglas and junior Luke Parmentier.
The score stayed at 2-2 until the eighth inning, when the Hornets put runs on the scoreboard once again. Alabama State plated two runs off of Jackson State pitching, punctuated by a run-scoring double off the bat of senior Mikel Pryor, which brought the Hornets lead to 4-2. The score remained 4-2 for the rest of the game, as Alabama State held on for the win. 77 83 14 4 4
