Alabama State Baseball Drops Series Finale to Jackson State

MONTGOMERY, Ala. --Alabama State University baseball had four players with double-digit hits but dropped the series finale to Jackson State, 13-7 on Sunday.

Junior Caleb Sanders (0-4) started and took the loss on the mound for Alabama State (18-19, 11-4). Senior Will Larson was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit, walking one and striking out two.

Offensively, the Hornets were paced by junior Luke Parmentier, who went 1-for-2 on the day with a home run, a walk and three RBI. Senior DeMarckus Smiley put together a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with three walks and two RBI. Freshman Alex Espaillat also chipped in for Alabama State, putting together two hits in five trips to the plate while adding two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hornets were trailing 8-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Espaillat drove in two runs for Alabama State with a single, that scored junior Kameron Douglas and Smiley.

The Hornets deficit grew to 9-2 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the fourth inning. The Alabama State offense exploded for five runs, highlighted by a three-run home run off the bat of Parmentier and a two-run single from Smiley, which tightened the Tigers lead to 9-7.
