Alabama State walks off South Alabama 6-5

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | A single off the bat of junior Wilbert Espinal in the bottom of the ningth gave the Alabama State University baseball a 6-5 comeback in over the University of South Alabama on Tuesday at the Wheeler-Watksin Baseball Complex.

The Alabama State University bas earned a win in walk-off fashion, rallying to score one in the bottom of the ninth after South Alabama tied it up in the top half, sealing the victory on a to defeat the Jaguars 6-5 Tuesday.

Kyler McIntosh (3-0) picked up the win for Alabama State (19-18). The right-hander went one shutout inning while giving up one hit. Junior Caleb Sanders also made an impact on the mound for the Hornets, throwing 6.1 innings, giving up two runs on 10 hits, with no walks and eight strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 4-0, the Hornets first put runs on the board in the fifth inning. Junior Kelvin Agosto came across to score the lone run of the inning for Alabama State and get them on the board.

The Hornets kept the deficit at 4-1 before closing the gap further in the seventh. Alabama State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of junior Kameron Douglas, which brought the score to 4-2 in favor of the Jaguars.

Alabama State held the Jaguars off the scoreboard before rallying to grab a 5-4 lead in the eighth.

South Alabama then rallied to tie the ballgame at 5-5 before Alabama State walked it off in the bottom of the ninth on an RBI single off the bat of Espinal.
