ITTA BENA, Miss. | Alabama State University baseball rallied from down 9-8 in the sixth inning to beat the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils 12-9 on Friday at Magnolia Field.
Senior Will Smith (2-0) got the win out of the bullpen for Alabama State (10-17, ). The right-hander went 3.2 innings, giving up one run on two hits, allowing two walks and striking out five.
In the batter's box, the Hornets were led by junior Kameron Douglas, who went 1-for-4 on the day with a home run, two walks and two RBI. Junior Wilbert Espinal put together a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 3-for-5 with four RBI. Sophomore Isaiah Landry also helped out for Alabama State, putting together three hits in five trips to the plate while adding a double, a walk and two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets scored in six different innings on the way to the win. After holding the lead three different times earlier in the ballgame, Alabama State broke a 9-9 tie and took the lead for good at 10-9 in the seventh inning The Hornets recorded two of their three runs on a two-run single off the bat of Espinal.
