Clinton, S.C. - The Alabama State University soccer team fell at Presbyterian in a road non-conference outing at Martin Stadium.
The Blue Hose struck early, scoring twice within the opening five minutes. Sloan Spees put Presbyterian ahead in the 3rd minute with an unassisted strike, followed quickly by Lindsey Malyszek, who doubled the lead less than three minutes later. Malyszek added her second goal of the match in the 21st minute, giving Presbyterian a 3–0 halftime advantage.
Alabama State generated chances of its own, finishing with 10 total shots and five on target. Briana Sites led the Lady Hornets' attack with three shots, including two on goal, while Serenity Safeeullah and Savannah Singleton also tested the Presbyterian goalkeeper.
The Hornets tightened defensively after the break, but the Blue Hose extended their lead late. Anna Hussey converted in the 78th minute off an assist from Maddi Merryweather, and Harlan Lyons capped the scoring in the 84th minute with her second goal of the season.
Goalkeeper Kailyn Roselli worked under constant pressure and recorded 11 saves on 27 Presbyterian shots. Despite her efforts, Alabama State was unable to break through against a stout Blue Hose defense.
The Lady Hornets held 47% of possession and earned five corner kicks but were unable to capitalize.
With the result, Alabama State falls to 0-2-1 on the season, while Presbyterian improves to 2-0-1.
The Hornets return home for its next two events, hosting West Florida on Aug. 29 at 5 p.m., and Mercer on Aug. 31 at 1 p.m.
