ASU Volleyball Drop Match to Fresno State

Morgan has match-high 18 kills

TUCSON, Ariz. - Alabama State University's Jyriah Morgan had a team and match-high 18 kills, but it was not enough as the Hornets fell to Fresno State 3-0 on Saturday, at the McKale Center in the team's second match at Wildcat Classic.

Set 1:
Fresno State took control early, winning the first set 25-18. Despite a strong start from Alabama State, which saw Morgan scoring key kills, Fresno State had key blocks and took advantage of some Hornet miscues that allowed the Bulldogs to pull away for the 25-18 win.

Set 2:
ASU pushed the second set to the end, but the match finished with a 25-22 victory for Fresno State. Bama State continued to battled back in this set, with standout performances from Morgan, who contributed numerous kills, and solid play from Taylor Williams, who finished the match with eight digs. Fresno State's consistent play from Alivia Schneider (6 kills) and Gabby Lombardi (28 assists) helped the Bulldogs maintain the lead, despite a late rally from Alabama State.

Set 3:
Fresno State completed the sweep with a 25-22 win in the third set, but not without a strong showing from the Hornets. The key contributors for Fresno State were Lombardi, Schneider, and Addison Haluska (11 kills), who combined for the majority of the points. Alabama State held a 15-11 lead midway through the set, but the Bulldogs outscored ASU 14-7 the rest of the way to pull out the close set.

Despite the loss, Alabama State's Morgan had an impressive match with multiple kills across all three sets, and contributions from Williams and Kamrynn Clay who finished with 23 assists. Sierra Scanlan finished with the match's lone double-double in the match, consisting of 11 assists and 10 digs. ASU finished the match with more kills (40-38) than the Bulldogs, more assists (37-32) and more blocks (7-3).
