TUCSON, Ariz. – Alabama State University volleyball closed out play at the McKale Center on the campus at the University of Arizona, with a 3-0 loss to Texas A&M–Corpus Christi on Sunday afternoon. The Islanders took the match by scores of 25-9, 25-20, 25-19.
The Hornets (1-2) struggled to find rhythm offensively in the opening frame, hitting -.240 as A&M–Corpus Christi (3-0) jumped out early and never looked back. Alabama State responded with stronger play in the second and third sets, keeping both close before late runs by the Islanders sealed the sweep.
Jyriah Morgan, for the second consecutive match, led both teams with a match-high 13 kills, while also adding a block. Kaylen Hines chipped in nine kills while hitting .333. Kamrynn Clay posted a team-best 13 assists while Sierra Scanlan posted ninie assists along with two kills. On the back row, Trinity Mitchell collected 5 digs and added three assists to anchor the Hornet defense.
Alabama State will be back in action at the Georgia Invitational in Athens, Ga. The Hornets will face Georgia and Duke on Thursday, Sept. 4, and will end the Invitational against Texas Tech on Friday, Sept. 5.
