TUSCON, Ariz. -- Alabama State University's volleyball team faced off against Arizona on August 29, 2025, at the McKale Center in Tucson, falling 3-0 in straight sets. Arizona won the match by securing set victories of 25-16, 25-15, and 25-20.

In the first set, Alabama State struggled to maintain momentum against a powerful Arizona offense. The Lady Hornets showed some fight, particularly from Kaylen Hines, who led the team with 5 kills, but Arizona's consistent attack, including standout performances from Sydnie Vanek and Carlie Cisneros, proved overwhelming.

The second set saw Alabama State attempt to recover, but their offense could not find consistency. Arizona's blockers, led by Britt Carlson and Jordan Wilson, put up strong walls, stifling Alabama State's efforts at the net. Brynn Metoyer and Jyriah Morgan worked hard to keep the ball in play for Alabama State, but errors and Arizona's solid defense hindered any significant rallies.

The third set was more competitive, with Alabama State improving its side-out percentage and showing brief sparks of cohesion. Hines added another strong performance, while Metoyer contributed well with her service aces. Despite the team's resilience, Arizona's powerful offense and solid serve receive kept them in control. Arizona clinched the final set, sealing the victory 25-20.

Alabama State will face Fresno State in Saturday's round at the Wildcat Classic. Match time is set for a noon (CT) start.
