ASU Volleybal Sweeps New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS -- Alabama State volleyball earned a straight-set road win over New Orleans on Sunday afternoon at the Kiefer Lakefront Arena, sweeping the Privateers 25-17, 25-16, 25-20.

The Hornets rode the hitting of Jyriah Morgan, who finished with a match-high 15 kills, and Essence Jones who finished with 14.

The Hornets came out sharp in the opening frame, hitting an impressive .436 while holding UNO to just .184. Jones and Morgan combined for early kills to set the tone, while Taylor Williams added steady offense from the outside. She finished the match with seven kills and seven digs.

In the second set, Alabama State's serving pressure proved decisive. Kamrynn Clay delivered an ace and piled up assists to multiple hitters, as the Hornets raced out to a 7-0 lead and never looked back. Jones and Zanobia Willis controlled the net with timely blocks, while Brooke Adams anchored the defense with 10 digs on the night

The final frame saw New Orleans push back, taking an early lead, but ASU responded behind clutch swings from Morgan and Kaylen Hines, who finished the match with seven kills and hit .417 from the front row. A serving run from Breanna Swanson, capped by back-to-back aces, gave the Hornets control, and Clay sealed the sweep with a kill to close the match

Clay finished the match with a match-high 34 assists while Adams play along the back line earned her All-Tournament honors.

ASU will now jump into conference action and will host Grambling State, Friday, Sept. 26 at 6 p.m. and will turn around and host Arkansas-Pine Bluff Sunday, Sept. 28 at noon.
