Hornets Soccer Faces North Alabama

FLORENCE, Ala. – Alabama State women's soccer fell 3-0 on the road to North Alabama on Thursday night at the Cox Creek Sports Complex.

The Lions struck first in the 14th minute when Alice Bussey found the back of the net off a feed from Charlotte Sobotka. North Alabama controlled possession throughout the night, outshooting the Lady Hornets 21-3 and holding a 7-0 edge in corner kicks.

Alabama State kept the deficit at one through halftime behind strong goalkeeping from Corrine Brookes, who finished the night with 10 saves. However, the Lions pulled away in the second half with goals from Lilly Ford in the 71st minute and Meg Welsh in the 82nd.

Offensively, Emmanuella Yapi provided both of Alabama State's shots on goal, while Serenity Safeeullah added another attempt. The Lady Hornets battled to create chances but were unable to break through against UNA keeper Madison Vukas, who recorded two saves in the shutout.

The Hornets continue the current road trip with a match at West Georgia, Sunday, Sept. 7 at 1 p.m.
