MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State University (6-6) suffered a 13-4 loss to the University of Alabama (11-3) at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex on Wednesday.
Jaxon Baptist (0-3) started and took the loss on the mound for Alabama State. James Peterson was a bright spot out of the bullpen, tossing one shutout inning while allowing one hit.
At the plate, Devin Chandler, who went had three-run home and three RBI. Jose Alfonso went 2-for-3 with a double. Miguel Oropeza also contributed for with two hits in five trips to the plate.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hornets were trailing 9-0 in the sixth inning when they first put runs on the board. Alabama State scored three times, all of them coming across on a three-run homer off the bat of Chandler.
The Crimson Tide expanded their lead to 13-3 before the Hornets offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the ninth. Alabama State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Skywalker Mann to cut Crimson Tide lead to 13-4. The Hornets were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
