Alabama State's Falls to Longwood To Open Four-Game Series

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State University baseball fell to Longwood University 16-1 to open a four-game series on Friday at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.

Jorhan LaBoy (3-1) started and took the loss on the mound for Alabama State (6-7).

Divine's three-hit day led the Hornets offensively. Devin Chandler went 1-for-4 with a home run, a walk and an RBI. Miguel Oropeza chipped in two hits in four trips with a double and a walk. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 4-0, the Hornets first put runs on the board in the sixth inning. Chandler put Alabama State on the board with a one-out solo home run off Jaxson Lloyd. The Hornets were unable to get any closer, as Longwood added 12 runs to their tally on the way to a 16-1 final.

GAME NOTES
» Divine led the Hornets, picking up three hits in the ballgame.
» Alabama State left 10 runners stranded on base in the loss.
» Chandler led the Hornets at the plate, going 1 for 4 with a home run and an RBI.
» Longwood was led offensively by Jae'Dan Carter, who went 3 for 4 with two home runs and two RBI.
» Lloyd led the Lancers pitching staff, throwing six innings of one-run ball.

Alabama State and Longwood continue the series with a doubleheader starting a 1 p.m. on Saturday.
