BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama State University men's golf sits in fourth place following the opening round of the 2026 SWAC Men's Golf Championship, carding a team score of 300 (+12) on Monday at the RTJ Golf Trail at Oxmoor Valley (Ridge Course).
Arkansas-Pine Bluff leads the field after day one with a 287 (-1), followed by Florida A&M (292, +4) and Alabama A&M (295, +7). The Hornets are just five strokes out of third place entering Tuesday's second round.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Alabama State University men's golf was paced by Wesley Bairros Rodrigues, who turned in an even-par 72 and is tied for sixth individually. Rodrigues' steady round keeps him within striking distance of the tournament leaders heading into the final rounds.
Robert Woods and Alberto Banos each posted rounds of 75 (+3) and are tied for 17th, giving the Hornets solid depth in the middle of the lineup. Telmo Sueiro added a 78 (+6), while Chotithuch Wangpaibulkit rounded out the scoring five with an 82 (+10).
As a team, Alabama State recorded four rounds of 78 or better, positioning themselves well in a tightly contested field where just 14 strokes separate first through sixth place.
The Hornets will look to climb the leaderboard in Tuesday's second round as they continue play in the three-day championship.
