BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Senior golfer Wesley Bairros of the Alabama State University men's golf team was named the Men's Golfer of the Week by the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) after his season-opening September performances in Georgia, the organization announced Tuesday afternoon.

Bairros, in his second season with the Hornets, capped off his 45th-place performance at the Augusta Fall Invitational with a 1-over-73 second round and a 3-over-75 final round to finish +10 on the weekend, leading his team to a ninth-place finish in a strong field in one of the nation's most iconic golfing cities.

The team's second tournament, the HBCU Collegiate Golf Classic, saw the Brazilian native put up career numbers before the outing was cut short due to weather. His 18-hole performance featured a trio of birdies on the front nine and a fourth on the par-4 17th for a third-place finish, capping off the round within a stroke of the leaders while leading his team to a fifth-place finish.

This marks the first men's golf weekly honor for the Hornets since Quade Woods in April 2025. Bairros has risen to the task of filling the void that Woods left upon his graduation last season, and the Otero College transfer looks to continue his most successful stretch of play since October of last year, when he claimed an individual title in the team's third outing while adding a top-ten finish a week later.

Bairros and the rest of the Hornets men's golf team return to the links on Monday, October 12, for the two-day Motor City Matchup, hosted by Central Michigan University, at the Birmingham Country Club in Birmingham, Mich.
