BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama State men's golf remains in contention following day two of the 2026 SWAC Men's Golf Championships, holding fourth place after 36 holes at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Oxmoor Valley (Ridge Course).
The Hornets posted a second-round score of 296 (+8) on Tuesday, improving by four strokes from their opening round, and sit at 596 (+20) overall heading into the final round. Arkansas-Pine Bluff leads the team standings at 586 (+10), followed by Texas Southern (590, +14) and Florida A&M (591, +15).
Alabama State was paced by a trio of consistent performances that have the Hornets within striking distance of the top three.
Quade Woods, Alberto Banos, and Wesley Bairros Rodrigues are all tied for sixth place individually at 147 (+3). Woods rebounded from a 75 in round one with an even-par 72 in round two, while Banos matched that improvement with a 72 after opening with a 75. Rodrigues turned in rounds of 72 and 75 to remain in the top 10.
Telmo Sueiro is tied for 27th overall at 155 (+11) after rounds of 78 and 77, while Osiregbeme Egbakhumeh competed as an individual and posted a 77 (+5) in his round.
At the top of the leaderboard, Texas Southern's Yashal Shah leads the field at 142 (-2), followed closely by Arkansas-Pine Bluff's Jonathon Baumann at 143 (-1). Alabama A&M's Vicente Rodriguez sits third at 145 (+1).
With one round remaining, Alabama State will look to close the gap on the leaders and make a push up the standings in Wednesday's final round.
